ODEW released their Gifted Crosswalk which contains major changes between the 2018 Gifted Rule and the Gifted Rule that will go into effect on July 1, 2025. The .pdf can be found here. Major changes outlined in this document are cluster grouping/co-teaching in a cluster group, student placement in gifted services, and WEP specifications. Statehouse Updates:
HB114 – Regards age requirements for kindergarten admission
This bill has officially been amended to ensure that early entrance to kindergarten will be allowed. This bill has been reported through the House Education Committee and will be sent to the House of Representatives to be voted on.
SB158 – Prohibit student cellular telephone use in public schools
This bill was passed by the Senate in a 30-2 vote. Recent amendments would allow for use of cell phones in emergencies and for certain medical needs. This bill will head to the Ohio House before being sent to Governor DeWine’s desk for his signature.
HB96 – Operating budget
HB96 had its final hearing in Senate Education last week with over 160 testimonies on Wednesday, May 14th. The Senate Finance Committee is tentatively scheduled to hear HB96 testimonies starting the week of May 26th with an omnibus amendment deadline set for June 6th.
