Advocacy Update – 5.31.23 – College Credit Plus Hearing and not much else at the Statehouse

Senate Workforce and Higher Education heard the first testimony on SB 104 (Revisions to College Credit Plus).

Co-sponsors Cirino and Brenner are mainly seeking changes in admission requirements, application deadlines, and textbooks.  This bill would change application deadlines from April 1st to a twice-yearly date set by the Chancellor and Superintendent.  SB 104 would also require institutions involved in CCP to use open-source materials.  If open-source materials are not available, the institution would be required to pay 50% the cost of the textbook and the students’ school would be required to pay the other 50%.

Committees are expected to meet more regularly beginning next week.  We will keep an eye on any budget news as the deadline is quickly approaching.
