In the seemingly final hurdle before the Gifted Rule could officially be filed, OAGC spoke at the JCARR hearing yesterday afternoon. You can read our testimony here: Testimony Link. After our testimony, Chair Gavarone asked for a representative from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce to respond to our testimony and concerns. While legal council was in attendance, no one from ODEW was able to respond to our testimony and instead asked for time to follow up with the committee after this hearing.
Representative Skindell asked that the Gifted Rule be put on pause until ODEW had a chance to respond to OAGC’s concerns while Senator Brenner asked about previous work on the gifted rule in collaboration with OAGC. ODEW agreed to refile the rule. It is not clear what changes will be made to the rule or what the future of this process may look like. OAGC has been in contact with the JCARR committee about future steps and will be sure to share updates as we are made aware.
